2018 SPIRIT (Summer All Stars) Tryouts and Registration
PRE-Registration is REQUIREDUpdated Wednesday May 23, 2018 by Kris Marceca.
The AGSA is pleased to announce that we will be running a Summer All Star (SPIRIT) program for the summer of 2018. We are planning to field teams at the 8U, 10U, and 12U levels. If there is sufficient interest and a coach can be identified, we may have a program for older girls.
Participants in the 2018 SPIRIT program at the 8U, 10U and 12U levels MUST be playing house ball in Spring 2018. At the 14U level and beyond, it is assumed that girls have been playing HS softball and thus were not able to play in the House program. Those girls would be eligible to tryout if we had enough interest for a 14U team.
Tryouts for 8U, 10U, and 12U will be held at Greenbrier #1 (Yorktown HS) on Sunday 5/6. There is NO COST for registration for these tryouts - all participants MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED by 5/4.
Tryouts are MANDATORY and player availability for tournaments will factor into roster decisions. Known player conflicts need to be provided prior to the selection of the final team. The 2018 SPIRIT season will end no later than 7/31/18. (the 8U and 10U seasons are expected to end by 7/22).
Please note the following dates for the 8U, 10U, and 12U programs. Open practices are optional but recommended.
8U (Head Coach Chris Hernandez) - team comprised of '09 and '10 birthdays - there is no playing up.
10U (Head Coach Paul Webster) - team comprised of '07 & '08 birthdays
12U (Head Coach John Socknat) - team comprised of '05 & '06 birthdays
This is a competitive program and playing time is not guaranteed. The goal is to provide an opportunity for those players who are interested in improving their softball skills and/or playing in a tournament or travel setting. Players are expected to participate in SPIRIT practices in addition to House games and practices. For the summer season, players will participate in 1-2 weekly practices/games and up to 3 tournaments including the Father's Day All Star Tournament which will be held locally June 16th & 17th. The additional tournaments are typically USSSA sanctioned tournaments held on weekends in Maryland or Virginia. Local weeknight or Sunday doubleheaders may also be scheduled.
There will be an additional cost for participation in the SPIRIT program. The cost is expected to be $150-$200 depending on the size of the roster and number of tournaments played. Scholarships are available.
