Coronavirus (Covid-19)

Temporary Suspension of Activities

UpdatedSaturday July 11, 2020 bySteve Severn.

Dear AGSA families,                                                                                                     July 10, 2020

Now that Virginia has gone to Phase 3 of the COVID-19 restriction level, I thought it would be a good time to update where we are this summer. We have not been idle for sure and in spite of the uncertainty of the COVID-19 restrictions, AGSA has been adapting to survive in this brave new world.

We have had great success in modifying our “softball behavior” in order to conform to State guidelines and keep our kids and families safe.

Board approved procedures have been put in place to allow practices in Phase 2 and now just recently a second set of procedures has been approved to govern gameplay under Phase 3.

All of our guidelines were developed in cooperation and approval of the Arlington County Dept. of Parks and Recreation. We drew on resources including Virginia State guidelines, CDC, national and local softball governing bodies in addition to all of our Arlington youth baseball organizations.

The second, most recent document is posted on our website under Covid-19 and titled:

Arlington Travel Teams- Return to Play Guidelines for Games and will govern our softball operations for the foreseeable future, including House Leagues and Clinics.

We have managed to keep our summer programs alive and in fact all three programs that normally operate during the summer are now up and running, practicing, and playing games.

These 3 AGSA programs are:

  • The Spirit, Summer All-Stars have teams at the 8U, 10U, 12U and 15U age level.
  • The Sage travel program has teams at the 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U age levels.*
  • The Impact travel program has teams at the 16U and 18U age levels.

*Sage 2020-21Tryout information is posted on our website

In addition we have organized 2 clinics that are open for online registration and available to AGSA players.

See details at the bottom.

We are still in the very early stages of determining how our fall season will function.  The uncertainty of the how the school systems will operate just adds another level of complexity to the situation. However, we are pushing forward and hope to have a robust fall season as we planned at the time in April when we shut down. More details will be released once we get a little closer and the plan firms up.

Very Best to all of you and stay safe!
