Temporary Suspension of ActivitiesUpdatedFriday March 27, 2020 bySteve Severn.

Dear AGSA Families,
I thought it would be fitting to reach out to everyone today, a day which should have been the Opening Day for the 2020 Major League Baseball season and the reigning World Series champion Washington Nationals.
Much has happened in the world since I last communicated to you two weeks ago and announced that AGSA would be suspending softball activities indefinitely. Since that time, so many things have transpired globally that it is difficult to comprehend.
For Arlington residents and especially our young athletes, the untimely end of the of the school year and the closing of our parks, playgrounds and athletic fields has had significant impact.
While these are just a couple of the many restrictions being placed on our daily lives by this unprecedented health emergency, the AGSA Executive Board and our friends in the youth baseball community join me in remaining hopeful that we can still salvage this season, in some form for our children.
The AGSA Executive Board met earlier this week via teleconference and agreed to hold open the possibility of starting up the season at some point this spring. We are looking into many options including a shortened season, extending deeper into the summer and possibly conducting softball camps in lieu of or in addition to a game schedule. This of course is all predicated on when it is deemed safe by County officials to get back on the field. Safety is always our top priority.
We are in close communication with the Arlington Department of Parks and Recreation, the Arlington Sports Commission (representing all sports) and the leaders representing all the Arlington youth baseball organizations. The timing for the resumption of play will be a unified decision agreed upon by all.
The take-away is that we are maintaining a positive attitude, staying in touch with the County decision makers and keeping all our options open. We will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
I would also like to take the opportunity to ask for your support of our league sponsors. Many of our sponsors are small businesses and enduring unprecedented hardships during this time. Reach out to them as they have pledged their support to AGSA and our families.
